Louisiana Back Note
img_0460.jpg

During the Civil War, the State of Louisiana issued its own notes. Due to the scarcity of paper, they were issued on the backs of unissued old banknotes. When the notes were redeemed, they were cut in half and the first half sent to the treasury. Upon confirmation of safe arrival, the second half was sent. The halves were never rejoined so the notes exist only as unmatched half notes.
